The contracts from the publisher arrived today. Of course, I’ve been reading every article on book publishing contracts that I’ve come across. It’s a fairly simple contract, but a legal eagle will be looking at it for me. Wise thing to do, right?
.
I’d gone through and edited Contraband since it was submitted, but I still feel the urge to revisit it. I’m gonna resist that urge. After all, there’s another one to be published, which I haven’t looked at yet.
.
I want these books to be the best they can be, so I think I’ll be editing right up until someone says ‘enough already!’ or until I take my own advice about the point of diminishing returns. (See blog post below.)
.
The next few weeks will be a busy time for me. I hope you stick with me as I go through the publication process.

At some point, every writer has asked him or herself when to stop editing. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t ask myself anymore. Right now, I’m still fiddling with a manuscript that’s been accepted for publication. I think this tinkering has to do with timing. What do I mean by that?
.
One of my mottos is that we all should learn something new every day. Some of the knowledge we gain is random. Other things we learn from our interest in particular areas. For me, this has to do with writing. Every day I read an article or two about some aspect of writing. Added to that, I skim through books on writing.
.
With all this acquired knowledge, is it any wonder that I’m always editing? Yet, I’m amazed that each time I look at my writing after months have passed, I find something on which I can improve. The result? Tighter storytelling.
.
A writer’s job is never done, so my advice to serious writers is never stop studying the craft. In the same breath, I’d add that it’s also good to know when you’ve reached the point of diminishing returns. Question is, d’you know when you’re at that point?
No matter how I slice it, my blog suffers from lack of attention. It gets lost in the editing and writing process.
I got some news this week, which may help me sit up and pay some more attention. I’ve heard back from Nevaeh Publishing on my manuscripts – Contraband and Island Dissolution. They want to add them to their roster and have offered a contract for each story. So, I’m waiting…
The excitement hasn’t set in yet, but I suppose it will catch up at some point. To get back to the point of this blog, I want to use this opportunity to keep this blog current, by tracking the publication process. A long time ago, my byline was…follow my path to publication…but it seems to have gotten lost somewhere along the way, when I changed the face of the blog. I’ve wanted to update my website for a while, but again, too much to do and not enough time in which to do it.
Here’s your invitation to join me on this journey to seeing my work in print.
